Detail:

Pastor Jared Longshore continues the church’s series on the attributes of God with a message entitled “The Truth of God.” God’s truth consists of two elements, veracity, God declaring things as they actually are, and faithfulness, God will bring about the precise fulfillment of His words.

God always speaks the truth. Number 23:19 declares “God is not man, that he should lie.” His truthfulness can be seen in revelation. 1 Peter 1:22 – 25 provides an example of God’s veracity, flesh and flowers wither but God’s Word is eternal. Psalm 100:5 speaks to the faithfulness of God and His Word. In fact, it was Jesus who said God’s Word endures as he proclaimed in Matthew 5:17 – 18 that He had not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it.

God’s truthfulness is also visible in redemption. 1 Corinthians 1:9 tells us God calls us and is faithful to bring us into fellowship. Rather than relying on ourselves we can rest in the assurance of God’s Word “for he who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23).

Finally, God’s truthfulness is evident even in His retribution. Adam and Eve had been instructed and warned yet they disobeyed. The promised penalty of death has come to pass for the whole race. Rebellious Israel was judged and suffered retribution for their rebellion (Numbers 14:20 for one example). The same principle is carried over into the New Testament. Unbelieving and sin-hardened hearts lead to a falling away from God with eternal results.

We must work at having believing hearts to trust God to do as He says He will. The record shows He does exactly as He says He will. Considering this ought to be of great concern for one who has not come to the Savior. God says eternal doom awaits the soul without the Savior. Yet He also says Jesus is “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). Turn to Him while there is still time.
